More Pictures of Thailand

Here are some pictures that I took before my surgery, I am just getting around to posting them now.  I have spent the last week recovering from surgery, and I am feeling almost back to normal now.  I should be returning to Mongolia very soon!  I have loved being in Bangkok (even when all I could manage was going down one floor on the elevator to get some food), and I hope to be able to return again to Thailand at some point, hopefully for happier reasons.

Day at the park!

A visit to Chinatown

Riding in a Tuk Tuk--a motorized three wheel cart.  They are sometimes better than car taxis because they can fit in smaller areas and make u-turns much more easily.

The view from my friend's parents' condo.  My hospital is just to the right of the big blue sign.

Day 52 and 53: Weekend in Thailand

Up to Day 51...an unintended hiatus

Sorry for the lack of daily pictures recently.  I was not feeling well, and ended up going to Ulaanbaatar to meet with my Peace Corps doctor and get some tests, and now I have come to Thailand, which is the regional medical hub for Peace Corps in Asia.  It seems that I should have no problem returning to Mongolia and finishing out my service this summer, which is good news!  In the meantime, I have some unexpected time to spend in Thailand--somehow I think I will be able to keep myself busy here!

Here are some pictures from the last few weeks--since its been so cold in Mongolia and I haven't been feeling up to it, I don't have a picture for every day.  But hopefully I can make up for it with lots of pictures in Bangkok!  More updates to come soon.

The best selfie I have with a poncho I recently made.  I couldn't seem to get in focus and keep my eyes open in time for the timer to go off!

Myrtle is always ready to go for a walk or play with the puppies that live in our courtyard.  She lets me know by standing by my apartment door and looking pitiful.

I miss these ladies! They are holding down the fort in Chinggis City.  Also, Myrtle is convinced that she is a lap dog--everyone else is less convinced.

The frozen Kherlen River, just outside of town.  You can see people playing volleyball on the river in the distance.

Myrtle and I going for a walk.

While I was in UB, I got new glasses!

View from the Hong Kong airport.  I didn't have the time to check out the city, but I hope I can come back in the future!

Spending a few hours at the Hong Kong airport before my flight to Bangkok.

Sunset at the Hong Kong airport on my way to Thailand.

Made it to Bangkok!

Traffic wasn't terrible, but I am planning on staying an avid pedestrian.

My mission in Bangkok: get better, and drink as much iced tea and coffee as I can!  Many food pictures to follow.

Day 15 to Day 27: My Life Through Photos

Day 15: I was enjoying a quiet evening in my apartment, keeping my feet nice and warm with wool socks and my amazing space heater. Little did I know that....

Day 16: My power went out.  In fact, it was out for six days, for various reasons!  I ate a lot of bread, and spent my nights reading with a flashlight, so basically, I was living the dream of my nine-year-old self.

Day 17: Gooey goodness of an egg and cheese sandwich!  Maybe I am too old to admit this, but I just learned how to fry eggs this winter.  The results are very tasty!

Day 18: Myrtle's ear got stuck up and we were both confused.  Of course it was time for a photo shoot.

Day 19: I didn't take any other pictures this day, except this one to check how my eyeliner looked.

Day 20: After finding a particularly good bone, Myrtle forgot that I existed for the rest of the day.

Day 21: Eating some fudge that my mom makes every year.  Its so nice to have a taste of home!

Day 22: When my power came back on, I was most excited to have tea and coffee again!

Day 23-25: These are actually all from the same day.  I got a little behind when my power was out.  I never seem to have my camera on me when the cows come to eat the garbage, but I was in luck this day!  Now this is what I call free range.

Day 23-25: This baby cow was super cute.  Baby cow couldn't decide if Myrtle was a friend or not.

Day 23-25: a herd of cows moving past my apartment complex.

Day 26: A cold afternoon.  Sometimes it feels like the air is so cold that it freezes to mist.  I have no idea if this is actually what's happening, but bright sunny days always seem warmer.

Day 27: The view from my office.  Blue sky and the city.

I received a package from my university's Global Health office today.  It was really great!

Day 8 through Day 13

Day 8: jet lag selfie

Day 9: My dog Myrtle with her new stuffed animal.

Day 10: Myrtle and her new friend are inseparable.  And, Myrtle can't stop tasting!

Day 11: A half-finished building in my neighborhood.

Day 12: a ger-shaped shrine near my apartment.

Day 13: Myrtle and her new friends.  I hope their mother doesn't bite me one of these days!

Day 6 - Day 7

I have had a great time visiting my family for the holidays, but it is time for me to return to my life in Mongolia.  Peace out America, see you this summer!

Day 6: last night on holiday must include ice cream and coffee.

Day 7, aka my travel day:  a fun picture of my parents' dog enjoying the new snow.
